GSAÉD Seeks Expulsion of Board of Governors Representative

The Graduate Students’ Association (GSAÉD) of the University of Ottawa demands that the graduate student representative resign or be removed from office.

At GSAÉD’s June Council meeting, the recently elected graduate student representative, Robert Head, provided a report on his activities which involved voting for a budget that included a tuition fee increase of up to 10% for some students. At the next meeting, Council distanced the Association from this action, passing a resolution condemning Head. “I find it greatly disturbing that this graduate student representative is the first in memory at uOttawa to vote for a tuition fee increase,” …

November is Mental Health Awareness Month and, to shed some light on mental health issues on campus, GSAÉD is bringing you a series of events! This year we have a variety of events to help you de-stress, learn the signs and symptoms of mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, and laugh out loud. The main office of the Graduate Students’ Association is open on the following schedule:

Monday: 8:30 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:00

Tuesday: 8:30 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:00

Wednesday*:  8:30 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:00

Thursday: 8:30 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:00

Friday: 8:30 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:00

Note that the office is ordinarily closed from 12:00 to 13:00 for lunch.

GSAÉD invites all graduate students who wish to get involved with the student community to submit their candidacy for the positions of Directors Without Portfolios (4 positions), Director General of Elections (1 position), and Chair (1 position). For more information on these positions, please consult the GSAÉD bylaws, from By-Law VIII to By-Law XI.

Students at uOttawa recently saw their tuition fees increased for the ninth consecutive year. Governments claim that there simply isn’t enough money to fund post-secondary education adequately, while they cut the taxes of large corporations and the super wealthy. Students continue to be subject to racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination. Colonialism continues to oppress Indigenous peoples and destroy their land.
